The Organization

The bench, a city construction that accommodates us so often in our everyday small or large walkabouts, this meeting and resting point is the theme of the contest organized by the City of Athens and the World of Athens. This is an international contest launched by the need to make the city of Athens' more beautiful and friendly. The goal is for Athens Bench Mark to serve as an international communication and ideas exchange platform, to stimulate dialogue between artists of the world, to create an artistic event of long duration, a permanent design exhibition for all the people that walk the city streets, to become an incentive for the participation of all citizens of the world in a project that will improve the daily life of thousands of people, right here in the city we live in.

The benches of Athens are changing. Everyone participating has a hand in realizing the change the city has embarked on.

The City of Athens and the World of Athens invite everyone, designers, architects, artists, engineers and creative teams around the world to give benches their new form.

But also you, the artists who give passionate free range of your creative expression are invited to participate in the contest “Future Bench” and illustrate the bench of the future as you imagine it.

Visitors and students of design, architecture, industrial design, etc are invited to join the effort. The voluntary conservation program for old benches remains active if it weren’t for you, the concerned citizen.

Last but not least we invite citizens of Athens and the world to support the project, to help with their participation in the polls, to join together in choosing the best, the most beautiful and comfortable benches for the city we love and care about.
